Academy Select Two as Film Scholars Print E-mail

Beverly Hills, CA — The evolution of color in motion pictures and the corporate history of RKO Radio Pictures will be the topics explored by John Belton and Richard B. Jewell, respectively, the eighth pair of Academy Film Scholars selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Institutional Grants Committee of the Academy Foundation, the educational wing of the Academy, selected the two scholars for the honor on the basis of their manuscript proposals. Each will receive $25,000 from the Academy to aid in the research and writing of their respective projects.

Oscar Night® America to Benefit Charities Nationwide Print E-mail

Beverly Hills, CA — On Sunday, February 24, charities in 52 cities will host official Oscar® telecast viewing parties during the 80th Academy Awards® ceremony as part of Oscar Night America, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ grassroots outreach program.

The Academy sanctions charities across the country to host celebratory viewing parties on Oscar Night, with proceeds directly benefiting the charities. All parties will feature the live broadcast of the Awards presentation; many will integrate Hollywood style party elements, including red-carpet arrivals, local celebrities, “paparazzi” photographers, predict-the-winner contests and live entertainment.

Beverly Hills, CA –– Eightieth Academy Awards® telecast producer Gil Cates and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis today announced the presenters and performers who will participate in the February 24 Oscar® telecast.

At a press conference held at the Academy’s headquarters today (Thursday), Cates and Ganis announced the presenters scheduled to date, including all four of last year’s winners in the acting categories—Alan Arkin, Jennifer Hudson, Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker—as well as Amy Adams, Jessica Alba, Cate Blanchett, Josh Brolin, Steve Carell, George Clooney, Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus, Patrick Dempsey, Cameron Diaz, Colin Farrell, Harrison Ford, Jennifer Garner, Tom Hanks, Anne Hathaway, Katherine Heigl, Jonah Hill, Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Kidman, James McAvoy, Queen Latifah, Seth Rogen, Martin Scorsese, Hilary Swank, John Travolta, Denzel Washington and Renee Zellweger.

Two Co-hosts to Grace Oscar’s Red Carpet Show

Beverly Hills, CA –– Regis Philbin, who will host the official 30-minute red carpet arrivals show preceding the 80th Academy Awards® presentation, will be joined by co-hosts Samantha Harris and Shaun Robinson, executive producer Gil Cates and producer Dennis Doty announced today.

This will be Harris’s first time working on Oscar’s Red Carpet Show and Robinson’s fourth time hailing the stars on Oscar’s behalf.

Robert Osborne to Greet Celebrities on Oscar’s Red Carpet

Beverly Hills, CA — Academy Award® nominees, presenters and performers will be greeted on Oscar’s red carpet on Sunday, February 24, by film historian, television host and Hollywood Reporter columnist Robert Osborne, Academy President Sid Ganis announced today. Red carpet guest arrivals are expected to begin at approximately 3 p.m. PT and conclude at the start of the Oscar® telecast at 5 p.m. PT.

“Being on the red carpet is unlike anything else,” said Ganis. “Robert is calm, collected and cordial as he welcomes our guests. He’s superb! He adds to the excitement and glamour of the red carpet.”
