Author C. Kirkham explores the bond between a young girl and a battle steed
in her new book, Torden, Hear the Thunder
LINCOLN CITY, OREGON (PRWEB) October 14, 2006 -- C. Kirkham has lovingly
merged her literary aspirations and equestrian passions in Torden, Hear the
Thunder, the first offering a planned two-book series. This coming-of-age novel
about friendship and loyalty, aimed at pre-teen girls and young women, springs
to life against the backdrop of World War I-era Europe.
Set in the
summer of 1914, the faint grumblings of war are just over the horizons of a
picturesque Dutch farming community in The Netherlands. A black Friesian horse,
injured in battle, runs throughout the countryside in search of safety from the
fighting. When she finds the horse in a ditch near her relatives’ farm, an
11-year-old girl is moved by the animal’s suffering and convinces her family to
take him in. Soon, the horse becomes accustomed to his gentler existence of farm
work and competition.
Kirkham, a lifelong horse lover, desired to bring
wider attention to the little-known Friesian breed. Her fondness for Friesians
inspired her to write Torden, Hear the Thunder. She has proven herself an able
wordsmith in this novel.

About the Author
Before becoming an author, C. Kirkham
spent much of her time dealing with computers and creating technical material
and business plans for various companies. Her passion for Friesian horses was
kindled in 1998 when she sought a horse for purchase on the Internet. Since
then, she has studied as much as possible about the breed that faced near
extinction in the early 1900s. Kirkham, a mother of three adult sons, lives in
Otis, Oregon, with her husband of 11 years.
