K. D. Johnson's new psychological novel, Kept Secrets, examines how early abuse can continue to negatively affect a whole life.

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) October 14, 2006 -- Kept Secrets, by K. D. Johnson, tells the story of a troubled young man, as he looks back on his extremely difficult life and the forces that led him to make bad choices. A prisoner who is continually turned down for parole, he has plenty of time to examine his life and ask tough questions: How did his life turn out so wrong? Do we really have free choice about how our lives will turn out? Who is ultimately responsible?

K.D. Johnson, who has a degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences explores the sociology behind a life gone wrong. As a character, David Lee Watson is the quintessential outsider. Suffering from feelings of not belonging, he’s also isolated by the unrelenting mental, physical, and emotional abuse at the hands of his parents. After far too many years of growing up in a living perdition, he decides to strike out on his own, in an attempt to find what is missing from his life. Yet even though he gets away from a miserable home, he finds that life out in the big world can be just as cruel and unforgiving. Johnson brilliantly shows how limited our social systems are and how hasty, emotional choices can make things even worse.

The questions that David Lee asks himself are questions of great psychological and sociological importance. Many of us wonder whether our lives would have been better or worse had we made different choices. It's easy to assume that we would be more content, and living in a happier life, had we chosen different forks in the road. Nevertheless, David Lee learns the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.
