(Nashville, Tennessee…) – In just over eight months Gretchen Wilson has
garnered three Top 5 singles, a CMA Award, an AMA Award, two Billboard Music
Awards, a Grammy Award, and now her debut album Here For The Party has been
certified quadruple platinum for sales in excess of four million units.
The critically-acclaimed album hit stores May 11, 2004, debuted at #2 on
Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart and spent a record nine weeks atop the Country
Albums Chart. Her first single “Redneck Woman” spent a record six weeks at #1
and has reached well over 100,000 digital downloads.
“I have always said that we would keep releasing singles, as long as we keep
selling records,” says President Sony Nashville John Grady. “I guess we will
keep releasing singles. They seem to motivate people.”
Gretchen wrapped up 2004 as the top selling debut artist of any genre, and
Here For The Party landed on numerous year-end top album lists including Rolling
Stone, People, Time, Blender and others. Entertainment Weekly ranked the
newcomer at #8 on their Top 12 Entertainers of the Year list. Most recently,
Playboy Magazine’s annual reader’s poll listed her as the “Best Country Artist”
for 2004.
2005 started off with a bang when she performed the title track to her album
and “Devil Went Down To Georgia” with her hero Charlie Daniels before an
international audience during the Super Bowl XXXIX pre-show. A week later she
was on the opposite coast performing with legends Lynyrd Skynyrd on the Grammy
Awards. During her recent two-week tour of Australia – where she played to rowdy
crowds in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne – Gretchen was presented with a
gold certification for Here For The Party.
Later this month, Gretchen and her ¾ Ton Band head out on tour opening for
Kenny Chesney – the hottest country music tour of the year.
